PSC Supports Modernizing Government Technology (MGT) Act

Arlington, Va.— The Professional Services Council (PSC) applauded the introduction of the Modernizing Government Technology Act of 2017 (the “MGT Act”) in both chambers of Congress today and expressed strong support for the legislation in a letter to the bipartisan, bicameral sponsors. The MGT Act would establish a critical source of dependable funding for federal agencies to invest in IT system modernization, incentivize agencies to utilize the funds for agency priorities, and accelerate the transition to the cloud. 

“PSC commends Senators Moran and Udall, and Chairman Hurd and Ranking Member Connolly, for their continued leadership to advance policies that will upgrade the government’s legacy IT systems,” said PSC President & CEO David Berteau. “PSC supports the MGT Act because we believe the bill will help make government more effective and its networks more secure, while reducing overall costs.”

PSC believes enactment of the Act would be a much-needed and critical step to begin addressing the immense challenges associated with upgrading federal information technology systems and limiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities inherent in the government’s outdated computer systems. PSC previously supported an earlier version of the MGT Act, along with predecessor legislation, the “MOVE IT” Act.
